Inaugural iBEST Translational Partnership Grant awarded

The winner of the inaugural iBEST Translational Partnership Grant (TPG) was announced at the 2023 iBEST Symposium held on April 14.

Dr. Monica Farcas and collaborators Dr. Eno Hysi, Dr. Darren Yeun and Dr. Alexander Koven received the $70,000 grant for their project Penile photoacoustics: Imaging fibrosis for the evaluation of Peyronie’s Disease and prediction of treatment outcomes. Dr. Hysi accepted the award on behalf of the team at the symposium, which was hosted at the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute at St. Michael’s Hospital, Unity Health Toronto.

The TPG was developed to support projects that address clinical problems or improve health and treat disease while providing enriched training experiences to student trainees. The successful project brings together clinician scientists, engineers and trainees to translate research concepts into testable solutions.

“The proposals received were extremely competitive and demonstrated the true essence of the institute with collaboration and translation embedded throughout the top proposals,” said iBEST co-director Dr. Tom Schweizer. “It was not an easy job by any stretch to select only one application out of the top three. I would like to congratulate Dr. Monica Farcas’ team.”
